To enhance their services, Birtle has also initiated a Citizens on Patrol Program to help ensure no vandalism occurs during the late evening
and early morning hours. In addition some local business people have pulled resources to hire an individual to patrol the streets 6
nights a week from 12:00 AM – 6:00 AM. The community, with the co-operation of the RCMP, also runs a Neighbourhood Watch and
Rural Crime Watch Program designed to deter crime in our area.
Water System:
Birtle presently draws its water from one well drilled into the
till-related sand and gravel aquifer located beneath the town.
This aquifer has yield and is recharged from the Riding Mountain uplands, which are located approximately 40 km north of
Birtle.
Water from the town’s well is pumped with an estimated combined capacity of 13.09 litres per second. The town's per capita has been estimated
to be equivalent to 5.3 litres per second.
Birtle's water storage facility consists of an underground concrete reservoir with a capacity of 380,000 litres.
Water Treatment:
Birtle's water treatment system consists of an aeration tank,
pre-chlorination injection and Pyrolusite filters at the primary well.
The underwater distribution system provides service to most of the built-up portion of the town.
The overall condition of the town's distribution is considered to be good, with most cast iron water mains having been
replaced with PVC plastic mains.
